A High Point Scoring System was used for the 2017/18 Volvo Ocean Race.
IN-PORT-RACES (Each Port Stopover Alicante, Lisbon, Cape Town, Hongkong, Guangzhou, Auckland, Itajai, Newport, Cardiff, Gothenburg & The Hague had an In-Port Race. The Winner got 7 Points, 2nd 6 Points, 3rd 5 Points, 4th 4 Points, 5th 3 Points, 6th 2 Points and 7th 1 Point. The In-Port-Series would serve as Tie-Breaker in the Event there was a Tie after 11 Offshore Legs.
OFFSHORE LEGS (The Winner scored 7+1 Points (Bonus Point for winning the Leg). Legs 3, 7 and 9 offered Double Points. 1 Additional Points were awarded for the Team who would round Cape Hoorn first & for the Team who completed all 11 Legs in the shortest possible time.
