Noteworthy Developments during Leg 5 # 1 4 Days into Leg 5 Team Sanya suffered extensive Hull Damage forcing the Team to divert back to Auckland. The Boat would be shipped to the United States for repairs. The Team also announced that they would be missing Leg 6 and would rejoin the Fleet for Leg 7. # 2 CAMPER with Emirates Team New Zealand & Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing also suffered extensive structual damage during the Southern Ocean crossing forcing both Teams to divert to Puerto Montt in Chile. While CAMPER managed to repair their Boat and then continue to Itajai collecting the Points for 4th Place the Boat of Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing was loaded onto a Container Ship Bound for Itajai. # 3 17 Days into Leg 5, in the Southern Atlantic Ocean, about 100 Nautical Miles from the Coast, Groupama Sailing Team was dismasted. The Team diverted to Punta del Este in Uruguay, installed a "Jury Rig" and continued to Itajai to collect the Points for 3rd Place. # 4 Therefore only PUMA OCEAN RACING powered by Berg Populsion & Team Telefonica managed to cross the Finish Line in Itajai largely unscathed although the Spanish Team had to do a 12-Hour Pitstop at Cape Hoorn to change Rudders.
