NEW TEAM FOR SEASON 3 [2022/2023]




On September 6th 2021, prior to Race Weekend in Saint-Tropez, SAILGP CEO Russell Coutts announced the Switzerland SailGP as 9th Team to join the Global Sailing League bringing SAILGP closer to its goal of 10 Teams and 12 Events every Season. The SUI SailGP Team will be led by former America's Cup Sailor Tanguy Cariou as General Manager and Skipper/Helmsman Sébastien Schneiter. Schneiter recently competed in the 49er Class at the Tokyo Olympics and was Skipper & Helmsman during the 2017 Red Bull Youth America's Cup in Bermuda as well as the GC32 Series in 2019 as part of "TEAM TILT".

WOMENS PATHWAY PROGRAM


On October 7th 2021, prior to Racing in Cadiz, SailGP Organizers announced new Crew Combinations taking in effect in Cadiz and beyond. Therefore the Standard Crew onboard the Boats will be 6 (5 Males + 1 Female) while the Light Wind Combination will be 4 (3 Males + 1 Female). SailGP's Goal is to create a Women's SailGP League parallel to the Men's Event by Season 5 (2024 or 2025).

SAILGP SEASON 2 NOTABLES
# 1 Sir Ben Ainslie, the Skipper of the Great Britain SailGP Team stepped back onboard after missing Taranto & Plymouth for Personal Reasons.
# 2 Great Britain recorded a new Official Speed Record during Official Practice Racing at the Denmark Sail Grand Prix presented by Rockwool with 98.3 kph (kilometers per hours) = 53.1 Knots.
# 3 USA SailGP Team Wing Trimmer Paul Campbell-James broke his Leg (Fibula) during Official Practice Racing at the Denmark Sail Grand Prix and was replaced by New Zealander Jason Saunders. Campbell-James made a miracle recovery in just 3 Weeks to race at the France Sail Grand Prix in Saint-Tropez.
# 4 Spains SailGP Team capsized prior to racing at the Denmark Sail Grand Prix presented by Rockwool because of a broken foil and was subsequently ruled out of Day 1 Racing.
# 5 On September 28th 2021 after poor Results at their Home Sail Grand Prix the France SailGP Team announced Quentin Delapierre as the new Driver replacing Billy Besson prior to racing in Cadiz.
# 6 Prior the 2nd Day of Racing in Cadiz the Spain SailGP Team capsized their Boat ruling them out for the second Day of Racing; Later that Day during the all important Podium Race Great Britain capsized their Boat as well. Both Teams suffered no injuries to their Crewmembers.


RACE FORMAT FOR SAIL GP SEASON 2
Each Grand Prix consists of 5 Fleet Races and 1 Podium Race. The Winner of each Fleet Race gets 8 Points, 2nd 7 Points, 3rd 6 Points, 4th 5 Points, 5th 4 Points, 6th 3 Points, 7th 2 Points and 8th 1 Point. The 3 Teams with the most Points after the 5 Fleet Races face each other in a Podium Race to determine the Winner of the Individual Event.
The Top 3 Teams with the most Points from all Events at the end of the Season go Head-to-Head in a Race called "THE GRAND FINAL" for 1 Milllion $ Prize Money.
